Civil Discourse

Facebook post to a “political discussion group” a week or two into Trump’s presidency:

“Hey, I’ve been checking in occasionally without participating, but I have a question. What do you think about President Trump’s constant lying? Is it important or unimportant? We’ve seen him lie about a number of small things this week, but do you think he will also lie about bigger things? Does he only lie to specific audiences? Is there a strategy behind it?”

Response:

“Joe pull YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS! Your starving your brain for oxygen! Come on get a clue! WTF is wrong with you? Are you one of those people in the democratic study that voted for Hillary. That have an IQ less than 90? That’s only 20 points over RETARDATION! Go get some help. I know a Dr that was Obamas shrink! Your incredibly stupid or on some kind of hallucinating drugs. Hope your not on any government aide program. Because your about to lose your benefit! Wow! Deplorable! Or horrible Democrat or LIBTARDS! Sorry but that’s the truth! DEAL WITH THAT!”

Where is the anger coming from? The man (who doesn’t know me) seems to take my question as an attack. Neither he nor anyone else in the group (consistently far-right) would acknowledge that Trump lies. I was looking for some insight into what Trump’s supporters think about the simple objective fact that he lies. Now I’m left wondering, do they really not know or is this hyper-defensive post an indication that they know and it bothers them?
